Lake Thurmond, also known as Clarks Hill Lake, is a man-made reservoir located along the border of Georgia and South Carolina in the Southeastern United States. The lake was created by the construction of the J. Strom Thurmond Dam in 1954, which is named after former US Senator J. Strom Thurmond. The lake spans over 70,000 acres and has a shoreline of over 1,200 miles, making it the third largest lake east of the Mississippi River. Lake Thurmond is a popular destination for outdoor recreational activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking. The lake is also home to various species of fish, including largemouth bass, striped bass, and catfish, making it a popular spot for anglers.
